Buying a Home in Gilbert, SC
Buying in Gilbert often means more land and a quieter night in Lexington County, with Lake Murray as a drive unless you specifically hunt the water. Confirm the school assignment for the specific house. Call or text (803) 569-7595.

I am Lauren Lux, REALTOR® | Coldwell Banker Realty. I grew up here. I will not invent prices, lot sizes, or a drive time and call it a fact. Tell me how you live. Then we pick streets.
How a Gilbert week actually feels
Gilbert sits west of the busier Lexington core. People come here for room: a larger lot, a workshop, fewer headlights at night. You will hear about land, outbuildings, and quieter evenings. Gilbert is allowed to be its own place.
That is a different Tuesday than in-town Lexington. Lexington is Columbia Avenue, people you know, and errands you can finish without turning every grocery run into a plan. Gilbert can still work if you like the drive and the evenings feel worth it.
Start with the Gilbert neighborhood page. If you are also weighing Lexington, the comparison is Gilbert vs Lexington. This post is Gilbert as a buy, with space, the commute, and the lake words sorted before we unlock a door.
Space, without a lot-size slogan
Gilbert buyers often mean space when they say they want out of the busier core. That can be a larger lot. It can be room for a shop. It can simply be a night that feels less like a subdivision.
I will not invent a typical acreage number. Ask the property questions out loud:
- Is the house on public water and sewer, or well and septic?
- Is there an HOA, or is the road unrestricted?
- What is actually allowed for outbuildings, animals, or a fence?
- How much of the lot is usable, versus woods and drainage?
I will not pretend every Gilbert listing is acreage. Plenty of roads have associations. The house tells you. The listing headline does not.
If well and septic are new to you, budget time in the inspection window for those inspections. That is a property fact, not a town slogan.
Drive it toward Lexington and Columbia
I will not invent minutes and paste them on every Gilbert address. Roads differ. School pickup differs. Weather on I-20 differs.
Columbia is reachable. Lexington is the closer town week for groceries, appointments, and Lexington Medical Center if that campus is part of your life. The question is which drive you do not want to do twice a day.
Do this before you write an offer:
- Drive to work at the hour you will actually leave.
- Drive home at the hour you will actually return.
- Time the trip to Lexington for groceries or Lexington Medical Center if that is part of your week.
- Sit in a parking lot at school pickup if that will be your afternoon.
A lot that looks perfect on Saturday can feel long on a Wednesday in the rain. Test it.
The lake is optional, not automatic
Buying in Gilbert does not put a dock in the backyard. Lake Murray is still in reach as a plan. It is not a town feature.
The south side of the lake, including quieter pockets like Pilgrim Point, is part of the wider map Gilbert buyers sometimes compare. Cherokee Shores comes up in that same conversation. Those names do not prove the lot touches the water.
Waterfront means the lot touches the water. Lake view means you can see it. Water-access means a shared ramp or community dock. Confirm the lot.
If the water is why you are moving, say so. We may tour a Gilbert house for the land and a south-side lake house the same week so you can feel the difference. Start with the Lake Murray overview. Do not borrow a lake identity the house does not have.
Schools: District One, confirm the house
Gilbert addresses are commonly associated with Lexington County School District One. Confirm the school assignment for the specific house. Attendance lines are not a vibe. They are an address lookup.
I name districts. I do not rank schools. If you need academic data, go to the district and to primary sources.
Still Lexington County
Choosing Gilbert is not choosing a different county. Taxes, services, and school lines still follow the house.
I will not invent millage or a tax bill here. Your assessor and your closing attorney confirm dollars.
How buying with me works
Tell me whether land, a quieter night, or a lake weekend has to be easy. Then we look at houses.
Go to the buy page and fill out the questionnaire. We complete a buyer profile. We sign a buyer agency agreement. Then I search listed homes, and I can look off-market after that paperwork is done.
The longer walkthrough is buying a home in Lexington. That guide still applies out here. The week is just quieter, and the drives are the part you should test. When you want to talk it through, contact me.
If you need a local lender, I recommend Jason Burns at Guild Mortgage, (803) 210-7999.
I will not invent a "typical Gilbert price." Send the kind of house you want. I'll pull comps and call you.
Call or text (803) 569-7595. We'll sort the lot and the school first, then tour.
Questions
Is Gilbert good if I want land?
Often, yes. Gilbert buyers usually mean space: a larger lot, a workshop, or a quieter night. I will not invent a typical lot size. The house tells you. Ask what is usable versus woods and drainage.
How far is Lake Murray from Gilbert?
The lake is a drive unless you specifically hunt the water. Gilbert is not a waterfront town. I will not invent minutes. Drive the route on a Saturday and on a Wednesday if the water is part of why you came.
Which school district serves Gilbert addresses?
Gilbert addresses are commonly associated with Lexington County School District One. Confirm the house with the district. I name districts. I do not rank them.
Is Gilbert the same week as Lexington?
No. Gilbert often means more room and a quieter night. Lexington is a town you can run errands in. Both are Lexington County. Drive both weeks before you pick a street.
How do I start looking at Gilbert homes?
Fill out the questionnaire on the buy page. I'll search with you from there. Call or text (803) 569-7595.
